NOTICE FOR PARENTS - COLLECTION OF HOME PACKS, Friday morning 9.30-11.30am
Following the government announcement, school will be closed to pupils from Monday 23rd March. Thank you for your patience while we awaited clarification on closure detail.
Parents may collect home packs from school on Friday morning (20th March) as planned.(Collection details to follow).
Dear Parents,
The Corona Virus has presented us with an unprecedented challenge for St. Colum’s. This is an extremely worrying and challenging time for everyone and unfortunately we are receiving delayed and outdated advice in a situation which is extremely fluid.
On Monday there was 50% attendance at school across all classes. Although the school was operational this is not an effective educational experience for any of the children. The reduction in numbers was due to both voluntary and mandatory self-isolation. The whole school community sends their best wishes to all those St. Colum’s families forced to self-isolate. Government statistics would suggest these numbers are likely to increase.
Consequently, we have decided that on Wednesday 18th March the school will be closed for a staff development day which will afford teachers the opportunity to finalise lesson plans and scopes of work which they have been compiling for the children for the inevitable event of full school closure.
Thereafter, from Thursday 19th March, the school will remain open under UK government directives although the children will not necessarily be taught in their normal class fashion. This will depend on children’s attendance levels and staff wellness.
We completely respect the rights of parents and guardians to make decisions in the best interests of their families at this time. No child’s attendance performance will be adversely affected (i.e. they shall not be marked absent) if you withdraw them from school provided you, in accordance will child safe guarding procedures, have informed the school of your reason. Those who have already contacted us do not need to do so again.
We will send out a text on Wednesday morning about absences to which you can reply directly. These replies will saved on the school system.
As Principal I can be contacted at kmccullagh955@c2kni.net and I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully
Mrs Mc Cullagh, principal and Mr Mulholland, Chair of Governors.
Primary 4 travelled back in time today to spend their school day in the 1950s. What a very different day... writing with ink pens, lunches wrapped up in paper, milk in glass bottles and jiving! Great fun!
All school-based after school activities are cancelled until further notice.
It is with regret that the PTA have decided to cancel the planned St Patrick’s fundraiser on the 16th March.
“We apologise for any disappointment caused but we decided we should take every precaution to avoid the spread of coronavirus especially due to the close contact nature of Ceili dancing”.
The management of the school wholly endorse this decision. The children will enjoy their St. Patrick’s day assembly and Quiz afternoon as usual. Anyone who has bought tickets will be able to receive refunds between 8.45 and 9.15 on Friday 13th and Monday 16th March. If you are unable to pick up your refund then please let the school know and the PTA will make alternative arrangements to arrange your refund.
Thank you for your continued support of the PTA.
Looking forward to our St. Patrick's Menu next Monday, 16th March. Don't forget to wear green! (Non-uniform day)
St. Colum's PTA invite you to join them at St. Patrick's Night of Craic at Dominican College on Monday 16th March at 6:30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for children (includes Irish Stew and Wheaten Bread) and are on sale Mon-Friday this week from 8:45am to 9:30am in the school foyer.
THANK YOU to everyone who donated bags of unwanted textiles for our Cash for Clobber Collection today... raising £24! We really appreciate your support for this scheme - recycling and fund-raising for our school!
Thank you to Primary 6 for helping to load the lorry. 🚛♻️
