WORLD BOOK DAY IS COMING!

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are celebrating World Book Day on Friday 4th March 2022. As part of our celebrations, we would love the children to dress up as one of their favourite characters from a book. There will be a number of prizes on the day for the best costume in each class. We have also decided to partner up with our Eco Committee to run an extra competition. Mrs Mulholland is offering a special prize for the best costume in each class made using recyclable or reusable materials. We are running two other competitions this year to celebrate World Book Day. Please feel free to participate in as many as you like. Equally, we are fully aware of how stressful costumes and competitions can be for parents so there is absolutely no pressure to enter all of them.

BUILD A READING DEN

Your challenge is to build a reading den at home. Feel free to make it as cosy, big, small, unique or wacky as possible! You may already have your own reading den or tent at home which is also perfect for this competition. Bring in a picture of you or your family reading in your den and winners will be chosen next Friday. Good luck!

‘EXTREME READING!’ Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever read a book? What wonderful thing could you do whilst reading your favourite book? We’re excited for you to share your ‘Extreme Reading’ experience! Bring in a photograph of you or your family reading in an unusual or out-of-the-ordinary place! Remember to stay safe – reading is meant to be fun, not dangerous! Prizes will be also be awarded on the day. Good luck!

SHARE A STORY - We’re looking for volunteers to read to each class virtually. Let us know if you are willing to do a recording and we’ll get in touch with you. Please send a message to your child’s teacher via Seesaw. The children always love hearing stories read to them by people other than their teachers for a change!

LIBRARY VISITS to our new Portstewart Library have been arranged for pupils in P3 – P7. Your class teacher will be in touch with further details. P1 and P2 pupils will visit the library in the third term. Please also keep an eye on our school Facebook page next week for stories read by different ‘Masked Readers.’ There will be a big reveal of each ‘masked reader’ next Friday!

Ultimately, we want the children to have a super fun week culminating in a big celebration next Friday.

We’re looking forward to having a wonderful day on the 4th March.

Thank you, Mrs Holmes (Literacy Coordinator)
