  • FEET FIRST FAMILIES & DITCH THE DARK DAY

    Fri 18 Oct 2019

As part of our involvement with Sustrans Active School Travel programme we are excited to be holding a special Active Travel to school day on:

    FRIDAY 25th October

Feet First Families & Ditch the Dark Day!

The aim of the day is to raise awareness of safe travel to school during the darker days and we are encouraging children to actively travel (walk, scoot, cycle, park and stride) to school wearing the brightest clothing they can!

Children are invited to get creative with their outfits and be super bright. The possibilities are endless – bright clothing, fluorescent orange socks, a pink tutu, a neon green wig – get bright, brighter, brightest!  You are more than welcome to join the fun yourself! Please feel free to dress to impress in your best neon bright clothing and travel to school actively with your child on the day!

We understand that it might not be possible for everyone to actively travel to school the whole way, particularly if you live far away. In this case we’d encourage you to park in one of the nearby car parks and walk the final part of the journey to school with your child. In doing so we hope to reduce the number of cars around school and have lots of active kids!

Our walking buses will leave leaving Manina and the Warren at 8:40am SHARP on the day.

Our school car park will be closed to ALL traffic except those needing disabled access and delivery vehicles. We plan to use this space for fun activities throughout the day.

Looking forward to a fun filled Active Travel Day!

Many thanks for your continued support.

  • WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

    Thu 10 Oct 2019

    It’s World Mental Health Day!

Let's take a look back at the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ animation film created by our Primary 6 class last year, who worked with the team from WheelWorks to create a fully immersive and interactive 3D production.

The short cartoon showcases the facets of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing – Connect, Learn, Give, Be Active and Take Notice – and the positive impact they can have on our lives and those close to us through simple, every day activities such as reading, small acts of kindness and exercise.

Primary 6 pupils took control of every aspect of the film – from scripting to sound, animation to music, this is all their work.

  • BOOK WEEK NI IS COMING!

    Wed 09 Oct 2019

Book Week NI is a joint initiative arising from the partnership between BBC Northern Ireland and Libraries NI and the event is now going into its fourth year. It will run next week from 14th – 20th October 2019.

The focus this year is on inspiring people of all ages to discover or rediscover the joy of reading by pledging to read for 15 minutes during and preferably throughout the week.

To encourage this, there will be a different theme each day with suggestions of books, eBooks and eMagazines to read. Also, themed events and displays will take place in libraries across Northern Ireland and the BBC’s programming will link to Book Week NI across its air waves.

Here, in school, we will set more time aside than normal in our busy days to read independently or read for others. It will give children the opportunity to mix and perhaps read for their buddies in different key stages. Children will complete a Reading Record sheet each day and prizes will be awarded throughout the week. P1, P2, P3 and P5 will also visit our local library branch on 14th and 15th October.

The children would LOVE some of their parents, grandparents or older siblings to come in and read to them throughout the week. If you have a book or story that you particularly enjoyed reading as a child, we would love to have you in school to share it with the children.

    PTA AGM

    Please come along!

    Monday 7th OCTOBER 2019

    School Hall 7.30PM

We’re holding our PTA AGM next Monday and would like to invite all parents, guardians and carers to attend. It will be a fairly quick meeting mainly involving a run down of the previous year’s activities but in order to run our AGM and elect the 2019/20 PTA committee, it is vitally important that we reach the required attendance to run the meeting. Even if you are not wanting to go onto PTA (and we promise there is no obligation, we are happy to just have as many at the meeting as possible), please please come along and show your support!

    Meeting should last approx 30mins.

We love to see new faces on committee.

If it is something you’d be happy to be part of, please let any current member know!
