We are delighted to be able to resume harp lessons in school again from next week. Socially distancing and class bubbles will be observed.
If any child from P4 to P7 is interested in beginning to learn to play the harp we have a small number of lap harps available to lend to children should they wish to commit to a 10-week programme. There is a small rental fee of £8 for the duration of the loan. Please request a booking form from the school if your child is interested.
Here are a few testimonials from the P7 harpists.
“I love it, it is fun and it is very therapeutic. If you play a musical instrument it is very good for your brain, it can make you smarter.” Aimee
“It’s very relaxing and you can learn new songs on it very quickly” Erin
“I’m looking forward to playing at weddings and concerts and entertaining people. I might even busk in the future and make some money from it!” Sinead
We would ask that any child who has a school harp at home who does not wish to continue with their harp lessons, returns the instrument to school.

This year our school is participating again in the SUSTRANS BIG PEDAL, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. We are asking all children to take part in this challenge over a 2 week period starting on Monday 19th April.
How it works
n each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking, scooting or using a wheelchair to school. A school’s best five days will determine their final position and schools at the top of their leaderboards will receive an exclusive Sustrans Big Pedal Trophy.
Prizes
All schools will be entered into daily prize draws for rewards if over 15% of the school cycles, walks or scoots on each day of the challenge. Prizes up for grabs include accessories and equipment to help us travel actively to school.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our school to continue working towards becoming more environmentally sustainable by reducing carbon emissions caused by traffic and is a positive step towards reducing car congestion around the school. It is also a healthy and sociable option for our pupils. We will also be using the challenge as a means of achieving our next Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
Unfortunately with current Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to run our usual ‘walking buses’ each morning but we encourage all pupils to walk, cycle scoot to school each morning. We realise it that you may not live close enough to actively travel all the way from home but please ‘park and stride’ from one of the car parks to school and this will also count as an active journey to school. For those pupils unable to walk, cycle or scoot in the mornings, they will have the opportunity to record an active journey if they do a ‘daily mile’ during the school day.
We are looking forward to 2 great weeks of active school travel.
Many thanks for your support.
